Darling White Lake Centre

Welcome!

The Darling White Lake Community Centre (DWLCC) has been a long-term vision of many people in this community. Presently, we are engaged in activities to raise money through fund raising events or through various grant money. So far, we have a total of $85,000.00 in this effort. The White Lake Property Owners Association ( WLPOA ) has been extremely supportive of our efforts and we look forward to our continued collaboration.

Community Centre Rationale

Who will it serve?

The DWLCC will serve the approximately 400 families, seasonal and permanent, who have cottages and homes in the Darling White Lake area. There are also four Camp sites that draw another 2600 people to this area during the summer. The area is geographically cut off from the rest of Lanark County and we do not have access to other facilities within the Township due to the lack of a link road.

What are we planning to do?

We plan to plan, design and build a Community Centre to serve all the residents, seasonal and permanent, of the Darling White Lake Area.

Where is the site located?

The land acquired for this proposed Community Centre is situated at the corner of Peneshula Rd. and Cedar Cove Rd. - approx. 2.47 acres.

What is the function of this centre?

The centre will be used to provide an emergency shelter, a meeting place, and an activity centre, to help protect the health and safety of all citizens both seasonal and permanent living in the Darling White Lake area

What are the benefits to the community?

The benefits that will be realized upon completion of the proposed Community Centre, for the residents of the Darling White Lake area, will be immediate. They include, but are not limited to the following:
  • to provide an emergency shelter to protect the health and safety of all residents, both seasonal and permanent in case of an emergency (i.e., the Ice Storm of 1998)
  • to provide a facility for a health clinic which is now situated more than 60 minutes away in the village of Lanark
  • to provide a meeting place for all area groups or organizations
  • to provide the facilities and the opportunities for youth education, community meetings, social gatherings, craft lessons, recreational activities and fund raising activities for the community and its' members.
