Darling White Lake Centre
NOTICE: In response to the COVID-19 pandemic the Darling White Lake Centre is closed until further notice. More information will be provided regarding a future opening date when available.
The Darling White Lake Centre (DWLC, or "the Centre") is your community centre, located at 236 Cedar Cove Road, at the south-east part of White Lake, in the Township of Lanark Highlands, Ontario. (Map below.)
Built in 2013 after an extensive, multi-year fundraising effort, and with the generous assistance of Ontario's Trillium Foundation and the Township of Lanark Highlands, the Centre serves a community of approximately 400 permanent and seasonal families, as well as many summer visitors attracted to the area by several local campgrounds.
It is a vibrant hub for many events and activities run by community members. "Run by" because the basic operating principle of the Centre is that it is a facility that is made available for use by local residents to host and run activities for the benefit and enjoyment of their neighbours. Monday afternoon euchre, Wednesday morning Coffee Hub, yoga classes, Live and Learn events, visits by healthcare practitioners, and periodic movie nights are only a few examples of the range of activities that take place under its roof throughout the year. A current calendar of events is available here.
We are always looking for activities to keep the Centre busy, so any ideas that will enhance the quality of life for participants and help build a stronger sense of community, are welcomed. Just contact any member of the Committee here.
The DWLC is also available for private functions at a nominal cost. More details on costs, restrictions, and renter responsibilities can be seen here.
In addition to various fun activities, the DWLC can also serve as an emergency facility in the case of a catastrophic event, providing temporary shelter for residents and a base from which emergency services can operate. Fortunately it has not been needed for this purpose as yet.
The DWLC is administered by an Executive Committee ("the Committee") which operates as a Committee of Council of the Township of Lanark Highlands. A copy of the DWLC Constitution which governs the Committee's activities is here.
